Spaceship.. A project that I wanted to make to try out some technical ideas. I wanted to create a long hallway with large windows to see the galaxy with it's stars and planets.

Then came the idea to make them rotate with day and night cycle. In the early stage of development the planets had also a atmosphere layer with clouds that rotated around it, which worked and looked great, but unfortunately not on all gpu's, so I deleted that idea. Also, I wanted to make a platform that raises on the start, and that worked out pretty well.

The track doesn't have any music track. It has serveral custom sounds like the ambient sound and the alarm with the warning broadcaster. Original this sound played in a continu loop. I decided to play the alarm with broadcoast sound effect just one time (01m27s) in the final version and play a small part of that (15s) 3 more times every minute after that. So if there is a 20 lap race there won't be endless alarms and warnings.

The big planet there is Mars. The other planet is Eris. Not realistic, but imagine that it's phobos or deimos.. Both planets have the same rotation speed, but from the spaceship perspective it seems that Mars is rotating faster.. it's not. Eris is much much much closer to the spaceship and the spaceship is very far behind Mars. That's why Mars disappears in the dark and Eris stays reflecting light for a while.

If you want to explore spaceship I recommend to do a timetrial or just a practice race to hear all the sound effects, or just watch the planets do their cycles, it's cool!

Maybe not all the structures and elements are realistic, but look at this spaceship as a piece of art. It doesn't tell a story, I leave that open for anyone's imagination.

  • Texture are all baked using Blender using a HDRI as a light source.
